AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction
AZA conservation grants programs support collaborative conservation among AZA member institutions and with partners worldwide. Our challenge is to meet the needs of AZA members and their more than 50 AZA SAFE species programs. Your involvement helps save the most vulnerable wildlife species from extinction and protects them for future generations.
Recently, grant funded SAFE projects have:
• Supported hiring and training technicians who assessed sloth bear populations in India and Sri Lanka.
• Built and installed nest boxes for thick-billed parrots, which have sustained habitat loss due to deforestation. The boxes created nesting options for breeding pairs to boost the population recovery of the species.
• Trained communities in Kenya and Tanzania to build lion-proof livestock enclosures to prevent retaliatory poisoning of wildlife that harms lions and other species like vultures.
Every contribution to the AZA SAFE Silent Auction brings us closer to our goal of raising $10 million by 2029 and makes a lasting difference by helping AZA member organizations save animals from extinction.
